Corpus Christi Says “Bring on the Bullies”
Award winning playwright Terrence McNally debuted Chorpus Christi in 1998. The play retells the story of Jesus as a gay man in the southern 1950s and was immediately overshadowed by powerful protests and death threats. Despite the negativity that the play faced, the show still went on. By 2006, the play became a monumental success and sold out venues in America and Europe. Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption is a feature length film that follows the playwright, cast and audiences on a 5-year exploration challenging the social issues of gay rights, separation of church and state, and marriage equality. The film, alongside performances of the play, will be making its way through ten major cities across the country including Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Madison WI, Chicago, St. Louis, Portland, Tampa FL, Raleigh NC, and Columbus, OH. Two exclusive sneak preview fundraisers will be held in an effort to support the I AM LOVE Campaign, which aims to change the story on religious bullying and homophobia in all ages and walks of life by learning to first love the Self. The screenings will be held on Saturday, June 9th in Incarnation Lutheran, Watermill, NY at 7 PM and on Monday, June 11th in Norwood, New York City at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Please come support and help spread the message of equality across America.
